SCIENCE! With Mr Wallace

On Wednesday the 27th of May Mr. Wallace came to our class to show us how to make hydrogen gas. While Mr. Wallace showed half the class how to do this Mr. Martin took the other half of the class out of the class room and measured the speed at which a tennis ball went at when dropped from a certain height. When making the hydrogen gas we had to wear safety glasses to protect our eyes from the gas or it would burn them. As soon as we had added sodium carbonate to tin foil & water it started fizzing. Then we put tinfoil over for a few minutes. Next we were told to put a hole in it then hold a lit match over it. Boom!!!!!!!! Boy we jumped it sure was loud Mr. Wallace told us it was because hydrogen gas is very flammable. Then he turned to our groups and started coming to the groups one by one. Then it was time for the last group and it made the largest bang out of all of them. All in all it was a great experience.

"Konnichi Wa"

In room 4 this year we have been learning international languages, our language this year is Japanese. Japanese is a hard but fun language to learn and will be a great help to us when we grow up because we might leave New Zealand . We have learnt how to say greetings, months, numbers, birthdates so far. We learnt a bit about the culture and the country too. We earlier learnt some Te Reo which was also cool but not as cool as Japanese. Written by Ozzy and Daniel.

"Opouahi 09"

Way back in term 1 the classes from TIS were paired up and went to stay at Lake Ohpouahi for 2 nights.
We had to cook our own dinner the first night after arriving, putting up tents and bringing a mountain load of stuff to the camp. For the next few days we paddled, kayaked, patted a Kiwi, learnt lots, went caving and froze. When we came back to camp we scoffed our dinner, did the dishes, brushed our teeth and went to bed. Once in bed we talked for a bit and eventually fell asleep. In the night if you lay awake you couldn’t hear much, just the occasional truck, a couple of angry birds and a sleep talker or two. We were so worn out after camp that some of us fell asleep in the bus!!! We all enjoyed our time at Camp and I’m sure we all wanted it to never end!

Greetings from Room 4

We are half way through term 2 and now in the process of preparing our 3 way confrenses which will take place in week 9. We recently had Grandparent's day and it was really enjoyable we had a few wonderful grandparents come in to our classroom and join us in a nice afternoon. We did a kiwi quiz that was lots of fun then they joined us in our friday assembly where we were ever so lucky to have Mr Burn's grandmother came and gave us a wonderful talk about her life over in australia and how she helps with the wild life like possums koala's and all those native australian animals. Anyway we just had fish 'n' chip footy which is still in process, unfortunatly our class did not make win our pool but we did get two draws which is still very well done, Look below for more information.

Fish 'n' Chip Footy

This Term we played Fish n Chip footy. When our first game came we drew our first game 1-1 against room 7. When our second game came we did the same thing drew 0-0 against room 17. The team that came first in their pool goes through to the quarter finals. Unfortunley room 17 got 4 points and we only got 2 points so we don’t go through. Our class still played really well.
